Stabbed, but left waiting: Mumbai teacher lived an hour after Malad train attack

Alok Singh, a 32-year-old professor of a Vile Parle-based college, who was allegedly stabbed during an altercation at Malad railway station on Saturday night, remained alive for nearly an hour after the attack, according to his family.

The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. After being stabbed, Singh was forced to sit on the railway platform for about half an hour while the railway police carried out procedural formalities. “He was alive for almost an hour. If my brother-in-law had been immediately admitted to the hospital outside Malad railway station, he would have been alive today,” said Sandeep Singh, Singh’s relative.

After initial procedures, the Government Railway Police (GRP), along with Singh’s colleague, took him to Borivali, where he was admitted to Shatabdi Hospital. He was pronounced dead around 7 p.m.

Police said Singh had suffered a six-inch-deep wound to his abdomen and was bleeding profusely. His colleague, who was traveling with him at the time of the incident, briefly caught the accused, but he managed to flee the scene. “The passers-by did not help catch the culprit,” said a relative.

Singh was eventually transported by train to Borivali and admitted to Shatabdi Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police later informed Singh’s father, Sunil Singh, a retired teacher from a BMC-run school in Mumbai who is currently in his native village in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district. Sunil Singh then informed his son-in-law in Mumbai, following which the family members rushed to the hospital.
